Get Involved

Dear Pastor / Church Leader,

My name is Jenny Hill.  My husband, Dave, and I have lived in Decatur for over 13 years.  We have 3 children.  Dave was formerly on staff at The Bridge Community Church as one of their youth pastors.  He now works for Youth for Christ at Bellmont High School.  Many of you probably already know him.  This year our first child entered Kindergarten.  Since she has been in school I have been volunteering in her classroom one hour a week.  While this is one of my favorite hours of my week, it has been an eye opening experience for me.   I always knew that there were families in Decatur who had needs but I had no idea how great that need was.  Not long after volunteering in my daughter’s classroom I started to notice there were many students who were lacking the necessary school supplies they needed to help make their education successful.  The need actual goes much further than school supplies but, we think this could be a great start.  When we went to register our child for Kindergarten I noticed there were several great programs to help families in need of food.  There is a program for reduced and free school lunches, some of the schools offer free breakfast, and even a program to help families who need meals over the weekend.  The PTO offers an additional program called NEAR (No Excuses Arrive Ready to Learn).  This program provides hygiene products to students who need them.  While I think all of these programs are wonderful, I noticed there was no help when it came to school supplies.  It cost us over $60.00 to purchase all the supplies my daughter needed to take for Kindergarten.  You can see why this would be so difficult for some families to purchase the needed supplies, especially when they have to buy them for multiple children.  God began to break my heart for the children and families who have desperate needs in our own community.

Recently Dave found a video from pastor and author Tony Evans about local Churches adopting a school in their community.  Together we began to brainstorm how God could do something just like this in our community.  How could we as Christian reach out to our neighbors needs and in turn show them the love of Christ.  We believe that a partnership with the local churches could have an amazing impact on our local schools and the community.  Would you prayerfully consider partnering with us to share God’s love?

I have included a brief summary of our plan to serve the school through our local churches.  I would love to meet with you and discuss how your church could be apart of this.  I will be        contacting you in the next few days to see if we can set up a meeting.  If you would like to contact me before then please feel free to call me at 260-403-8481 or email me at  sos.servingourschools@gmal.com

Thank you for taking the time to read this and hear my heart.  I hope you will consider partnering with us to help those in need in our own community.

God Bless,

Jenny Hill
